I engaged David Ashworth for advice on the decay affecting a timber framed and tile hung part of my house and I have no hesitation in recommending him. After an initial inspection, he found a roofing company to remove tiles so he could assess the extent of the damage, advised me of the repair work required, including enhancements such as insulation and timber treatments. He then drew up a schedule of work, with drawings, and liaised with both the roofing and the glazing contractors who at some points had to be on site at the same time. I was very impressed with his professional attitude and competence, and the wide extent of his knowledge and expertise of building construction and building regulations was obvious. His advice and suggestions were clearly expressed and he was always prompt and readily accessible by email, telephone and in person. In short, a pleasure to work with.

When were faced with what we felt was an excessive demand for dilapidations at the end of a commercial lease we appointed David Ashworth to act on our behalf. He had been recommended to us by another surveyor who felt that the situation required specialist help. Although there had been no problems or disputes with our landlord, the lease had been renewed several times, personnel had moved on at both ends and, perhaps crucially, the pandemic had put financial strain on landlords. We hadn’t anticipated this dispute and were ill equipped to deal with it. David patiently went through the documents and handled negotiations with the landlords. The initial claim was an astonishing £24,851.12 (it’s a small office building) but with David’s help and advice we eventually settled at £3,500. I would recommend that anyone faced with similar problems should contact Ash Chartered Building Surveyors.
