Party Wall etc. Act 1996 replaced the old London Building Act and extended it’s legislation and procedures to the whole of England and Wales. If you are a property owner looking to carry out an extension, a loft conversion, a basement conversion, a new build or any structural alteration to your property which is covered by the Act, you will have rights to do so and obligations to your neighbouring owners. Whilst the Act cannot stop the building work from going ahead it is also there to safeguard the interest of the neighbour (the Adjoining Owner) and their property.
