But at the end of the day, boilers do need replacing after all the wear and tear they face over the years. If something like a thermostat is malfunctioning, it can often be repaired. But where there are larger problems, like gas leaking, a replacement is often required.

As a general rule, when your boiler is 10 to 15 years old, it will normally need replacing. Sometimes it can cost more to repair it than replace it, such as when repairs become very frequent. You may simply want a more efficient boiler to save on your gas bills.
