I just can’t recommend Mark and his team highly enough. Mark and Neil started our two-storey full width extension and garage conversion in October 2020 just as the effects of lockdown and covid-related supply issues were starting to be felt. We had our design done separately and then obtained a number of quotes from builders and Mark was the most responsive and attentive of all the builders we spoke to. The price was great, but it was also important to us that we’d get along with the builders, knowing how much time we’d be spending together, and it was clear from the start that Mark would be fun to have around! In all, Mark and Neil were with us for the best part of 12 months, and we’d gotten so used to having them around that we were sorry to say goodbye when the job was over. Adam the electrician and Mark the plumber were also both a pleasure to have around, and excellent at their trades. Despite the fact that at one point in deepest winter we had no back wall on the house they did their best to keep us comfortable, going as far as taking the back wall down brick by brick with not a sledgehammer in sight! It worked, as against my expectations, we and our two young children were able to stay in the house throughout and I was able to continue working from home full time for the duration of the build and this is due to Mark and Neil going above to reduce the impact of the build on us. The job wasn’t without it’s challenges; the need for piled foundations, two 8m wide steels to hoist into place, steel design drawings provided by others that needed rework, and our decision to reconfigure the upstairs layout at the last minute being examples of these but Mark was always able to rise to them with a solution – his experience and skill was clear throughout and both he and Neil take huge pride in their work so it was great to work with them on some of the finer finishing details such as Mark’s suggestion to change the design slightly so that the steels were hidden within the ceiling rather than visibly protruding as per the design drawings. We asked Mark, Neil and team to do some extra work including fitting our bathrooms, laying floors, additional lighting work, changing our boiler and various other things and they did all these to a high standard and always at a very fair price. For any future building work, I would go to Mark without hesitation, and I would recommend MJ Builders to others in a heartbeat
