Andrew Murray

Andrew is the principal director of the Building Surveying Company Limited and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He has been practising in building surveying, post qualification, for 30 years. Andrew has developed his skills over the years working in a variety of positions providing him with a sound grounding in not only core building surveying but also in certain specialist areas of interest.

Andrew launched his building surveying related career in the 1980s by joining Edinburgh City council’s building control department, where he remained for 3 years whilst studying for RICS membership status.

To successfully complete the impending RICS experience requirements Andrew moved to private practice where he qualified MRICS and worked his way up the ladder via a number of established firms such as DM Hall and Thomas and Adamson. Andrew’s last salaried post was as Lead Director of the UK wide independent building surveying practice the Watts Group. He achieved Fellowship RICS in 2013.

Andrew has a wealth of experience in most building surveying related matters; including administering building contracts and providing condition survey reports and in the provision of dilapidations and schedules of condition. He acts for a wide variety of clients whose interests cover retail, industrial, infrastructure, office, social housing and health care facilities.

Andrew’s specialisms cover Asbestos and Fire Risk.

He has been advising clients on asbestos since 2000 and is able to personally deliver all types of asbestos consultancy including surveys/reports and accompanying asbestos management plans.

Andrew is a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (MIFireE) and carries out regular risk assessments for commercial clients and housing associations.

Andrew holds full Enhanced Disclosure through Disclosure Scotland.
