We commissioned Rob to do a large plastering job for a house renovation, three weeks in advance of the job starting. Two days before he was due to start, he called me to ask if his labourer could sleep at the house for the duration of their work to save him a long commute. I was a bit surprised at the request but didn't mind him asking. I explained it wouldn't be possible, however, not least because we were having the bathrooms replaced the same week, so there would be nowhere for him to go to the toilet at night (there's a cafe we can use next door during the day). Rob's sounded clearly annoyed that I'd said no, but nonetheless said he'd work something out for his labourer and start work at 10am on Monday. However, he never showed up to do the job. I called him five or six times and sent him three texts over the next couple of days and he never answered or replied. It's now been two weeks and I've still not heard from him. I can only assume he decided to ghost us because we wouldn't let his labourer sleep at our house. Our project timelines were very tight and contingent on Rob's work, which he knew. Because he let us down we've now had to pay £1,200 more to get another plasterer to start at very short notice. I can't comment on the quality of Rob's work. I can only comment on our experience of dealing with him, in which he was unreliable and let us down badly.
